"In my case - and I guess this is pretty standard in Tory DNA - the instinct is to support and believe the police. I find it so unnatural, and therefore uncomfortable, to find the actions of the police so politically troubling. I grew up believing: you can always trust a policeman. But it no longer feels automatically true; and that is intolerable."

The obvious conclusion, that his 'Tory DNA' is just plain wrong, and that inner city left-wing black people are right, seems to escape him.
