You can't make it up: homophobia in Africa is caused by 'colonialism' by Jay Knott (01/02/11) ⇌ (Register Guard - Jan 23)
How do left-wing activists deal with contradictions? Recently, the USA pressurized the United Nations to adopt regulations against discriminating against people because of their sexual orientation. Some Middle Eastern, African and other countries resisted: their governments want to be allowed to continue to discriminate against homosexuals.
This represents a problem for people who believe 1. the USA is bad, 2. homosexuality is good, 3. third world countries are good (or at least, better than the USA), because 4. the USA opposes homophobia in third world countries, and 5. the world isn't as simple as Michael Mooron's movies make out.
'Public Eye' magazine ("researching the right for progressive changemakers") has found a solution. Homophobia in Africa is caused by US imperialism.

It's caused by Western Christian concepts like the nuclear family undermining traditional African values, which treated gays and lesbians as equals.
Yes, I'm being sarcastic.
