The British police have 'lost it' again. This is good news. I remember the riots of the eighties - they were mostly liberatory experiences which fought back against police violence and Margaret Thatcher's economic policies, helping to establish class solidarity across racial and other divides.
"The world has changed dramatically between 1985 and now. Then, the police force's racism was unashamed and routine. Now, a single racist remark can end an officer's career." says the Guardian, citing the Telegraph.
They are missing the point. Riots are not primarily a campaign for more politically correct policing. They are an explosion of anger among the poor against poverty and the police violence necessary to keep the poor in poverty.
