Celtic fans protest against Britain's history of wars - and win 9-nil by Jay Knott (11/08/10) ⇌ (Football)
All the managers in British football wear the poppy around Veterans' Day, November 11th, which commemorates some of those who died in World War I - those fighting for Britain. Many fans of Glasgow Celtic, who come from Irish backgrounds, sympathise with those who died on the other side - so they protested against poppymania with banners which read "Ireland - Iraq - Afghanistan - no bloodstained poppy on our hoops" (hoops meaning the green and white colors of Celtic's team uniform). The press reacted hysterically, calling this reasonably intelligent comment 'hate' from a bunch of 'louts'.
And the team beat Aberdeen 9-0, a record result in the Scottish Premier League.
